Guild Capes: More Variety?
I would like to see the Guild Emblemer give us more control and options over our guild cape designs. Currently we have 3 layers (in a way). The fringe, pattern and emblem. But everything is restricted, emblems are set in place and patterns apply to the whole cape.
1. I'd like to see those restrictions removed. Allow us to:
- change the size of the emblems (smaller or larger)
- move the emblem to a different spot on the cape
- have 2 emblems on the cape? (mentioned by Ensabah Nur)
2. Quite possibly provide us with a 4th "layer" to the cape. Where we can add decals that are different from the emblems (ie. hearts, stars, leaves, etc). Decals that we can just drag and drop onto the cape. (Also have a limit to the number of decals allowed on the cape to avoid people from abusing this feature by over crowding their designs.)
3. Maybe even allow us to toggle on/off the black trim around our capes as well.
(This has to be possible because they have the gold and silver trims for high ranked ladder guilds.)
4. Have the top of the cape fit better around the armor we choose. (contributed by arcanemacabre)
Optional Suggestions:
5. *still in the works*
Provide more styles of capes to choose from. By treating our current cape as the "default". We can have:
- a long cape that reaches the ground (as mentioned by Quid Pro Quo)
- a coachman's cape/cloak (where your whole body is covered)
- a victorian cape (that covers the upper torso)
- a wider cape that extends out to your shoulders
- a tabard (a better version of the beta ones - Rayea)
This will definitely provide us with a greater number of variations and allows us to be more creative with our guild capes in my opinion.
More ideas/comments/suggestions are welcomed, and I'll try to keep the first post up to date with them.

I love the idea of resizing the emblems, mayhaps even allow 2 emblems on the capes(for the designs that "quarter" the capes?) As for decals , please tell me your not looking to use capes as advertising space?I don't want to see capes with Coca Cola or Ford decals.
Yes, in the case of the Guild Emblemer, it really isn't what you see is what you get. They always come out a bit lighter you have to make adjustments for it. Make the cape a tad darker than you want at the emblemer and it should(hopefully) come out the way you want it.

i think the 'decals' relate to the images you place in the middle of the cape. like the fist or the yin yang type we already have.....
say use the 2 one shade and 2 other shade Quater background pattern, then use the flame circle in the two diagonal corner and take a different immage and add that to the other 2 quaters of the cape....
(cant see a game like this using something like comercial decals when they could have just poped a billboard in the game to sell space on, its clearer and could have had better reconiseability liek the eaon flux posters in anarchy online heheh)
personaly, i would like a monthly *submit a design* comp to gain one new guildcape immage per month.....theres a few designs i miss in the list that would be usefull, and no way to get them in there otherwise ^^ like the infinity sybol...i cant beleave they left that out....o.0 hehe)

Oh no, marketing decals was not what I meant at all. What I was referring to was just simple little designs (that are different from the emblems) that we can place on as “decorations”. Just as a simple example, like hearts, stars, leaves, etc. To decorate and help accent the cape/emblem.

Monthly new cape emblems would also be a good idea. Even quarterly! It would definitely add more to the selections.
But eventually we will run into the same problem again. That all popular emblems will become a common sight in towns. Better than nothing though!

More freedom on the way emblems can be put on the cape is a great idea...

Two emblems would also work great in Factions since you will be able to form alliances. Your cape would have a your main emblem and then have a second smaller emblem that represents the other guild that you are in alliance with.
Their's would be the other way around.....

I’ve read many threads regarding the lack of variety in guild capes, but I haven’t stumbled into a solution. So I thought I’d suggest one, however, if I missed a thread that was already started. Many apologies.
Anyway. Yes, there is plenty of colour combinations already and there is no need for more. More emblems/patterns/fringes would be helpful, but most importantly -- more refine control over what we already have is what I'd like to see.

But what about if you are allied with more than 1 other guild?....

Yeah the cape in the emblemers little design window does indeed look darker.
If you look closely, there's a lightsource IN FRONT of the character, but there isn't one behind. You have to take that into consideration when making your cape.
A nice workaround i've found to it though (with my monk) is to look through the gap between his arm and his torso when viewing from the front. It gives you an accurate representation of what colour your cape is really going to be (because the light can miraculously shine through the characters body and hit the inside of the cape, but not around the back of the cape).
Silly but true, give it a shot.

Yea, I've noticed the lightsource in front as well. I just found it odd because a few months back when I created my cape, their was more of an omni light source. So some update between then and now, they changed it. I was hoping to point it out so Anet would change it back. Make it easier for the ones who are working on a cape design at the time being.

What about size of the cape? Am I the only one that wants a cape that goes past my middle thigh? I want one almost down to the ground personally.
Anyway this is a great idea.

customization ftw
Yeah I would have to support this thread all the way. I see to many guild capes that look alike maybe slightly identical. More customization mean greater individuality and individuality is a factor that we need for RPG games.
I made a ranger and I made this ranger so that there would not be twin. I did however sight my twin at camp rankor not too long ago. This game requires a vast amount of customization for the one million plus people, there are too many twins among tyria.
Along with moving around tyria we can only run or map to cities and outposts. Where is the flying and swimming at? There is beautiful skies and realistic water (not in teams arena) but where is the flying and swimming at?
To close this post - I am pretty sure that I have the best GWguru avatar. I would put toramiko's in a close second place but you can't the speedo.

I've mentioned something like this before, but what about something else totally different from capes to show guild alegiance? Like Having a crest grafted onto your shield or armour? maybe even having optional guild colours witch you can choose to apply to your whole armour for free once you join? It would certainly provide more of a uniform look in guild members but it would still be optional so as not to opress anybody. You know how people get when you opress them.

even if there werent new graphic emblems added ever. at least it will make guild capes definitely more unique than what is currently seen in most capes atm.

Conformity is always a nice thing in a dedicated/willing guild. But wouldn’t some use all black for guild colours as a work around from actually buying the dyes? That would really affect the economy of dyes.

Styles of Capes
Sorry if I’m double posting, but I thought of something that I wanted to add to this thread.
Going with what Quid Pro Quo mentioned above.
Giving us a way to change the style of our capes would even add more variety.
We can treat the current cape as the “default”, and have:- a long cape that goes to the ground (what Quid Pro Quo mentioned)
- a coachman’s cape/cloak (the ones that cover your whole body)
- a victorian cape (like the cloak but only covers the upper torso)
Ideas of more capes are welcome!
Roleplaying guilds would have something more to work with too.

hm..those one shoulder cape things like they used to wear in elizabeth the firsts time might also be good....
though i think the full boddie cloak would be seen way to much in kiddie guilds as a substitute for a trenchcoat or similar...*meaning, goody, i can now watch 15 different Neo wannabees run about town lol*
i remember peeps talking about tabards that were the Beta version of capes...
why not have a better version of that tabbard, and also add the special guild shield (purchasable from your guild hehe) and maybe even add hoods as helms....cover up your hair and make it look like a hooded cape...looks especially good with the full-length cape
/signed definately for full length cape, i realy dont like those little..dressing-up capes that they call guild capes right now....fine for the feminine chars, but what about the brick-outhouse warriors....they should all be using the /blush like a girly emote
